Inter School Nepali Ghazal Singing Competition

On the auspicious occasion of the 159th Moti Jayanti, DAV School organised an 'Inter-School Nepali Ghazal Singing Competition' for secondary level students. The event took place in Buddha Hall on September 1.
The programme was graced by the presence of the renowned singer, Mr. Ajar Jangam, the Head of the Music Department at Ratnarajya Laxmi Campus, who served as the Chief Guest.
Also in attendance were the DAV Chairperson as the Guest of Honour and special guest, Vice-Principal Mr. Ramchandra Khanal. The event was further honoured by the presence of senior music composer Mr. Raju Singh, Head of the Music Department Mr. Jay Shreevastava, prominent musician Ram Hari Poudel, and songwriter Mr. Dambar Bikel, among others.
A total of sixteen contestants from different schools performed a variety of melodious ghazals, spanning from the old generation to contemporary times. The competition showcased the diversity of ghazals within the Nepali music industry.
The participating schools included AVM, Kanjirowa School, KMC School, Kotdevi School, Global Pathshala, Nirvana Academy, Nepal APF School, Pathshala Nepal School, Bijeshwori Gyan Mandir Sainik Mahavidyalaya, Machhapuchhre School, Modern Indian School, United School, Radiant Readers Academy, St. Mary's School, Sainik Awasiya Mahavidyalaya, and Laboratory School. DAV School participated in the programme as a non-competitor.
In his address, Mr. Ajar Jangam, the Chief Guest, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to DAV School for providing a platform for young singers to showcase their talents in ghazal singing. He also extended his best wishes to all the contestants. Reflecting on his own school days, he recalled a singing competition where DAV Music Teacher Mr. Raju Singh served as the judge. He credited that experience with inspiring his journey into the music industry. Mr. Jangam expressed confidence that the Interschool Ghazal Singing Competition would similarly encourage young singers to pursue careers in music.
The Head of the Nepali Department expressed deep gratitude to Chief Guest Mr. Jangam, DAV Chairperson Shree Anil Kedia, Principal of Nirvana Academy Mr. Nirajan Adhikari, Vice-Principal Mr. Ramchandra Khanal, along with all the music teachers and students from the participating schools for making the programme a huge success. He also praised the performances of all the contestants and extended an invitation to all the schools for the 160th Moti Jayanti Celebration and Interschool Ghazal Singing Competition next year.
Principal of Nirvana Academy, Mr. Nirajan Adhikari, noted that he has been attending this programme since its inception. He praised DAV School for providing such a significant platform for emerging talents. Earlier in the programme, the Head of the Nepali Department, Mr. Narayan Khatiwada, delivered a welcome speech and outlined the event's schedule. The judges for the competition were Mr. Raju Singh, Mr. Ram Hari Poudel, and Mr. Dambar Bikel.
As for the results, Shibani Thapa from St. Mary's School secured the first position, followed by Grishma Bhandari from Bijeshwori Gyan Mandir Sainik Mahavidyala in second place. Shubhashis Singh Budhathoki from Modern Indian School won the third position and Aayudh Acharya from KMC School secured the fourth position.
The programme was hosted by Akshay Shah and Sankalpa Mani Devkota, both students of Grade X.
