Date: May 5th, 2026
DAV School celebrated the 2570th Buddha Jayanti with devotion, peace and joyful participation on April 30.
Students from Kindergarten to Grade XII came together for the 'Shanti Deep Prajwalan' programme held at Shankar Sadan and Indu Sadan. All the programmes were thoughtfully aligned with the core values of the Academic Session 2026–27 theme — Empower, Engage and Excel.
The ceremony, which involved the lighting of lamps as a symbol of peace and wisdom, was attended by the Principal, Dr. Bhubaneswari Rao, Vice-principal Mr. Ramchandra Khanal, along with members of the management team and teachers, who guided the students through the sacred rituals.
Buddha Jayanti, also known as Buddha Purnima, is a holy festival that marks the birth, enlightenment and passing of Lord Buddha. It is a time to reflect on his teachings of peace, compassion and mindfulness. The school observed the occasion with a variety of simple and meaningful activities designed for students of all age groups.
The youngest learners in Kindergarten enjoyed card-making and diya-lighting activities, while Grade I students listened to inspiring stories from the life of Lord Buddha. Grade II students took part in colouring activities based on symbols like the lotus and the Bodhi tree, Grade III students created drawings and crafts depicting Buddha’s life and teachings and Grade IV students participated in Role Play activities on Buddha Jayanti theme.
Students from the middle school also participated actively in different competitions and learning activities. Grade V students spoke on the topic “Ahimsa in Today’s World”, while Grade VI students presented short speeches on Buddha’s life. Grade VII students created collages on peace and compassion, and Grade VIII students took part in an art competition.
In Senior School, Grade IX students wrote essays on finding peace in today’s world. Grade X students watched a short film about Buddha's Life, and Grade XII students viewed a documentary about Buddha’s life and teachings.
A special whole-school activity called “Light of Peace” added beauty to the celebration, as students brought diyas and lit up the campus together, spreading a message of peace, unity and hope. The programme also included a special assembly with panchasheel prayer, a presentation on peace, and a guided meditation session that helped teachers feel calm and focused.
The celebration ended on a thoughtful and uplifting note, encouraging everyone to follow the values of kindness, harmony and peaceful living in their daily lives.
