Closing Ceremony of the 202nd Birth Anniversary of Swami Dayanand Saraswati

The closing ceremony of 3-day Birth Anniversary of Swami Dayanand Saraswati was observed in Buddha Hall on February 12.
The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Prof. Dr. Madhav Prashad Upadhya, President of Nepal Arya Samaj; special guest Dr. Ashutosh Parikh, a distinguished scholar from India; and Guest of Honour Shree Anil Kedia.
As a part of the celebration, the school organised a series of intra-school and inter-school competitions and activities on 10th and 11th February, 2026. The intra-school events held on 10th February included a Biography Speech Competition for Grade XI students, Nepali Poetry Recitation and Art Competitions for Grade V students, Biography Telling (Nepali) for Grade III students, Biography Telling (Hindi) for Grade IV students, and a Biography Speech Competition for Grade XI.
Similarly, on 11th February, different competitions were conducted across the school, including an English Poetry Recitation Competition for Grade IX students, Shlokbachan for Grades VII and VIII, Biography Competition (Hindi) for Grades VII and VIII, and an Art Competition for the same grades.
A total of 76 students who secured first, second, and third positions in intra-school competitions were honoured during the closing ceremony. Likewise, 37 students were awarded top positions in inter-school competitions, which witnessed participation from 14 schools across the country. The inter-school events included Nepali, Hindi, and Sanskrit article writing, art competitions, and biography speech contests.
The three-day celebration, held from 10th to 12th February, also featured several significant programmes, including a Pancha Kundiya Havan, floral homage and prashad distribution, the First International Indo–Nepal Football Tournament, and a documentary screening on the life of Swami Dayanand Saraswati. The objective of the celebration was to honour the legacy of Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati and his invaluable contributions to education and society. The entire programme was planned under the guidance of the Principal Dr. Bhubaneswari Rao. As part of the observance, a one-day bagless day was also organised for junior and middle school students.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Prof Dr. Madhav Prashad Upadhya expressed deep satisfaction in witnessing the DAV education system aligned with the ideals of Swami Dayanand Saraswati. He briefly highlighted the sage’s contributions across various spheres of life and congratulated the school management for successfully organising the grand event while applauding the students’ performances.
Special Guest Dr. Ashutosh Parikh expressed his delight at visiting the school and praised its environment, remarking that the students were fortunate to study in such a nurturing setting.
In his address, Shree Anil Kedia fondly remembered his father, Shankar Lal Kedia, and reflected on his devotion to Swami Dayanand Saraswati and the longstanding association of DAV institutions with Arya Samaj. He emphasised that DAV continues to progress along the path shown by Swami Dayanand Saraswati and extended heartfelt gratitude to everyone for making the event a grand success, especially congratulating the winners of the various competitions.
Vice-principal Mr. Ramchandra Khanal elaborated on the objectives of the programme and highlighted the comprehensive planning behind the event, noting that the school has been organising such celebrations consistently for the past three years.
The formal proceedings of the ceremony included the introduction of the programme, welcoming of guests and parents, lighting of the ceremonial lamp, rendition of the national anthem, and a welcome address.
As part of the cultural segment, DAV students presented Bharatnatyam and Kathak performances aligned with the theme of the birth anniversary of Swami Dayanand Saraswati. Ved Pujan and Swasti Bachan were also observed to mark the celebration. Outstanding performers from the three-day intra-school and inter-school competitions were given opportunities to showcase their talents during the programme.
The event was moderated by Hindi HOD Mr. Purushottam Pokhrel and Sanskrit HOD Mr. Purushottam Rijal, while the overall co-ordination was undertaken by Nepali HOD Mr. Narayan Khatiwada.
