Devotional Pancha Kundiya Havan Held in the Honour of Maharshi Dayananda Saraswati’s 202nd Jayanti

Date: Feb 16th, 2026

The Sanskrit Department of DAV School organised a Pancha Kundiya Havan on 11th February to celebrate the 202nd birth anniversary of Maharshi Dayananda Saraswati.
Students and teachers from Kindergarten to Senior School, along with staff from the Finance, Housekeeping, Transportation, and Security departments, took part in the sacred ritual with devotion and respect.
Maharshi Dayananda Saraswati, the founder of the Anglo-Vedic educational philosophy and inspiration behind the DAV movement, played an important role in spreading the practice of Havan beyond India. DAV schools and colleges around the world consider him a guiding force in their educational values.
The ceremony was held in the presence of the Chief Guest, Shree Laya Prasad Siwakoti, Senior Advisor of Nepal Arya Samaj. In his address, he spoke about the spiritual and environmental benefits of Havan. He explained that offering 108 fragrant medicinal herbs mixed with local cow’s ghee into the sacred fire is believed to purify the air, reduce harmful elements, and help maintain natural balance, including the rain cycle.
He also shared that Maharshi regarded the Vedas as the main source of knowledge and spread their teachings through books such as Satyarth Prakash and Rigved Bhasya Bhumika. He encouraged everyone to read these works to understand Maharshi’s ideas and teachings.
The Chief Guest also spoke about Maharshi’s social reforms, including his efforts against caste discrimination, untouchability, and the practice of Satipratha, as well as his strong support for women’s education. He described the establishment of Kanya Gurukuls in India as a major step towards empowering women through learning.
Vice-principal Mr. Ramchandra Khanal remembered Maharshi as a great thinker who explained the Vedas in a simple way for people in India and across the world. He said that Maharshi’s educational philosophy connects Gyan (Vedic knowledge) with Vigyan (modern science and technology), which forms the foundation of the DAV system. He also noted that the first DAV institution was established in Lahore in 1886 and that the DAV network has now grown into a global educational system serving millions of students.
The Havan began with the chanting of the Om Mantra and Gayatri Mantra, followed by Swasti Vachan, Agni Daan, Shanti Path, and other traditional Arya Samaj rituals. Offerings of havir dravya were made into the sacred fire. Students from the Natikaji Music Club also sang devotional bhajans during the ceremony.
The Pancha Kundiya Havan highlighted both spiritual and cultural values, promoting peace, positivity, and well-being for the mind and body. Teachers from the Sanskrit Department performed the rituals, and all students, teachers and staff received tika and prasad at the end of the ceremony.
