Date: Aug 21st, 2024

In collaboration with Fight Back, Bagdol, Lalitpur, DAV School organised a two-day risk reduction education programme, "Fight Back," for female students from Grades VII to IX and XI. The training sessions were held in Buddha Hall and Pratik Hall on 17th and 18th August, 2024.
The workshop, led by Senior Trainer Ms. Pooja Gurung and supported by a team of 10 skilled trainers, focused on mental, vocal, and physical preparedness. The trainers equipped the students with essential skills and knowledge to combat potential harassment and violence in society. Fight Back, Bagdol, Lalitpur, is a prominent research and training institute founded by Mr. Bikrant Pandey.
During the two-day training, Mr. Arman Raj Pandey, the Programme Head of Fight Back, visited the School to ensure that the training was proceeding smoothly.
The training began by presenting a scenario of possible harassment and violence, helping students understand that perpetrators often target physical, emotional, social, and cultural vulnerabilities before committing a crime. The programme then concentrated on strategies to fight against sexual violence and harassment.
According to Ms. Pooja Gurung, the primary goal of the training is to ensure the safety of girls and women in society. Over the course of two days, the students participated in mental, vocal, and physical training sessions conducted by experts. They were also shown various videos related to the topics covered in the training. In the concluding session, students were introduced to the Risk Response Matrix, which included silent fight back, verbal self-defense, seeking help, and active resistance. Additionally, they were provided with legal information and emergency hotline numbers.
The DAVSKVB Management has adopted risk reduction education: Fight Back as an annual programme for middle and senior school girls, recognising the heightened risk of sexual harassment and assaults faced by women and girls in South Asia.
This year, approximately 500 girls participated in the training. Testimonials from the students highlighted that such training significantly boosts their confidence in confronting various forms of sexual harassment and assault.
