
Debate on Pros and Cons of Social Networking Sites

Nepali Department and Devkota Nepali Club organised an Intersection Nepali Debate Competition for Grade X students in Indu Hall on October 1.
The topic for debate was "Social Media: Boon or Bane," with fourteen students participating. The debaters included Adwiti Mishra (Section 'B'), Kritisha Adhikari (Section 'F'), Aakriti Jha (Section 'D'), Sankalpamani Devkota (Section 'G'), Akshya Shah (Section 'A'), Shubham Singh (Section 'E'), Muskan Barai (Section 'E'), Nuwan Kulung Rai (Section 'D'), Arpan Rana Magar (Section 'B'), Naksat Shrestha (Section 'F'), Shubham Regmi (Section 'A'), Ismarika Dhakal (Section 'C'), Dikshitbabu Acharya (Section 'C'), and Anusuya Dhungana (Section 'G').
During the debate, some participants argued in favour of social media, highlighting its role as a platform for information sharing and creative expression. Others, focused on its potential negative impact on users' well-being, advocating for its drawbacks.
The Head of the Nepali Department, addressing the students, emphasised that the debate competition was a practical learning experience aligned with the Grade X syllabus. He praised the students' debating skills, particularly in tackling contemporary issues, and appreciated their adherence to the debate rules.
The evaluation criteria included the inaugural address, presentation style, content, arguments (support or criticism), language, and closing session.
The judges were Mr. Dambar Bikel and Ms. Bipana Karki from the Nepali faculty.
As per the results, Adwiti Mishra secured the first position, followed by Nuwan Kulung Rai in second, Shubham Regmi in third, and Dikshitbabu Acharya in fourth. Aayushma Lamichhane from Grade IX 'D' served as the debate moderator, while Yugbodh Gahatraj managed timekeeping.
The audience included students from X SEE and X CBSE Nepali Language classes. After the competition, the winners were honoured with Certificates of Achievement.
