Date: Oct 5th, 2026
The much-awaited 60th birth anniversary of Late Sushil Kedia formally commenced with a Sangha Daan program at the school premises on October 4.
To mark the occasion, a total of 210 monks and nuns from 10 prominent Vihars were cordially invited to receive the Sangha Daan. The gathering was accompanied by a distinguished list of senior Bhantes, including prominent spiritual guide Bhante Nigrodha, Bhante Nandan, and Bhante Bodhigyan and Bhante Vimalo in the long list of Senior Bhantes and Anagarikas.
DAV Chairperson Shree Anil Kedia, the First Lady Shreemati Sunita Kedia, Director of DAV School Shree Ayush Kedia, alongside Mr. Ramchandra Khanal, CAO Ms. Vijaya Tater, faculty members, teachers, and staff, warmly welcomed all the invited Bhantes and Anagarikas.
Addressing the auspicious occasion, Shree Anil Kedia noted that special emphasis is placed on the 60th birth anniversary in our culture. He shared fond childhood memories of his brother, Late Sushil Kedia, becoming nostalgic about his simple lifestyle, caring nature, and divine words, which were cherished by everyone he met throughout his life. He highlighted that DAV is a memorial school established in his brother's memory—a school built on the foundation of culture with the sole aim of imparting moral and ethical education in line with the character and values his brother demonstrated. He also emphasized that DAV considers this program the most important of all.
Furthermore, he expressed sincere gratitude to the monks and nuns from various Vihars across the Kathmandu Valley for providing the opportunity to offer Sangha Daan. Stressing the rare gift of human birth, he noted that coming into contact with religion, developing faith, and following a spiritual path are rare privileges. Likewise, he highlighted that religion is protected through the Sangha, and that the Bhantes have safeguarded these teachings while providing humanity with the opportunity to practice Sangha Daan and other religious and spiritual activities.
The session proceeded with a sermon by Bhante Vimalo at the request of the Chairperson. Before sharing teachings and moral stories from Lord Gautama Buddha, he offered prayers for the Punyaprapti of Late Sushil Kedia and his parents- Late Shree Shankar Lal Kedia and Late Shreemati Indumati Kedia, wishing successful heavenly journey. He commended DAV School for inculcating values in children through Pariyatti Sikshya, as well as Vipassana and meditation classes for students, teachers, and the wider community. He underscored that DAV’s effort to foster an education that prepares children not just for academic degrees, but to become moral and ethical human beings, is truly laudable.
According to Bhante Vimalo, the annual practice of Sangha Daan at DAV fulfills a fundamental religious duty. He shared stories illustrating the fulfillment of duty through religion, engaging all attendees in the teachings of Lord Gautama Buddha.
Following the address, Shree Anil Kedia lit the ceremonial lamp in memory of Late Sushil Kedia, and Shree Nigrodha Bhante led the Paritran recitation, followed by Asta Pariskar Daan and Punyanumodan.
Toward the conclusion of the program, Bhante Nigrodha shared that it was an immense pleasure to welcome Bhikshu Pannakara—popularly known for his "Walk for Peace" campaign in the United States—alongside the team from the Aalok Foundation and academicians from Lumbini Buddhist University to DAV for academic research and discourse on October 9. Leading Bhantes of the Kathmandu Valley, in co-ordination with DAV Chairperson Shree Anil Kedia, had spearheaded this initiative during Bhikshu Pannakara’s visit to Nepal to support victims of the Bhote Koshi floods.
