Heritage Walk with Art
Date: May 25th, 2026
The Art and Craft Department, in collaboration with Uttam-Kiran Art Club, successfully organised a special programme titled “Heritage Walk with Art” on May 21. A total of 61 students from Grade V to XII, including members of the Art Club and other talented young artists from different clubs, participated enthusiastically.
According to Art and Craft HOD Mr. Rajumuni Bajracharya, the main objective of the programme was to help students gain practical knowledge of traditional architecture and local art forms through on-the-spot sketching, while encouraging them to connect with cultural heritage and community life.
The heritage walk covered the historic Patan area. Students visited several important cultural sites, including the ancient Fire Brigade Office, the Pulchowk area linked with traditional chariot festivals, as well as old ponds, falchas, temples, and courtyards known for their beautiful architecture and wood craftsmanship. They observed how these traditional falchas continue to preserve their original design despite rapid urban development.
The students also visited the historic Ashok Stupa, believed to have been built by Emperor Ashoka during his visit to spread Buddhist teachings. They spent about an hour there creating live sketches, which they will complete with colours later at home.
The walk continued through narrow alleys behind the stupa to Aksheswor Mahabihar, a unique Buddhist monastery featuring stupas, chaityas, and traditional courtyards. There, students learned about Paubha painting, sculpture making, and Buddhist studies. During the visit Mr. Bajracharya also explained the process of traditional art creation and introduced them to the works of renowned artists.
After the visit, students enjoyed lunch together at a park near Labim Mall, surrounded by fountains and statues of revered personalities such as Shee Satya Mohan Joshi and Shree Ratna Kaji Shakya.
Throughout the programme, students remained highly engaged and inspired by the artistic surroundings, cultural heritage, and everyday life of Patan. They also explored their creativity through photography, videography, and editing, and will later prepare a short documentary using the collected materials.
The programme was guided by Art HOD along with Middle School Art Teacher and Club In-charge Ms. Samita Maharjan and Primary Art Teacher Ms. Rashmila Prajapati.
