One-Day Teachers’ Training on Inquiry-Based Learning: Pedagogy, Approaches, Assessment and Evaluation

DAV School Management organised a one-day Teachers’ Training Programme on Inquiry-Based Learning for the teaching community from Kindergarten to Grade XII. The session was conducted on 3rd May in Indu Hall and was facilitated by Prof. Dr Laxman Gnawali (PhD), Kathmandu University, who is also currently serving as the President of the Nepal English Language Teachers’ Association (NELTA).
The resource person was warmly welcomed with a bouquet and khanda by Vice-principal Mr. Ramchandra Khanal in the presence of Human Resources Manager Mr. Ashish Rai and Senior School Co-ordinator Mr. Tank Meghji Devji.
The training programme was thoughtfully aligned with the theme of the academic session 2026–27: Empower, Engage and Excel. During the four-hour session, Dr. Gnawali began by introducing the concept of constructivism in classroom teaching and learning, encouraging active participation through thought-provoking questions. He emphasised key principles such as learning by doing, learning through social interaction, the role of prior knowledge in meaning-making, and the construction of knowledge through action and engagement.
He further elaborated on the role of teachers in constructivist classrooms, effective pedagogical steps, and approaches to assessment and evaluation. The session also highlighted the significance of the 5E instructional model in facilitating meaningful learning, along with guidance on developing 5E lesson plans and adopting best practices for successful implementation.
The programme was highly interactive, with teachers actively engaging in group-based problem-solving tasks and inquiry-based activities. The resource person was formally introduced by the Head of the English Department, Ms. Asha Khadka. A vote of thanks was delivered by the Grade IX and X SEE In-charge and Head of the Nepali Department, Mr. Narayan Khatiwada, who expressed appreciation for the enriching session and conveyed hope for continued collaboration in the future.
The School Management organised this training in response to recommendations made by Heads of Departments at the beginning of the academic session, with the aim of effectively integrating the school’s theme into everyday classroom teaching practices.
