Orientation on Film-Making for Grade X and XI Students

Date: Sep 27th, 2024

An engaging orientation on film-making was held for Grade X and XI students at the School's ultramodern auditorium by Ms. Maanavi Bedi, a film industry veteran with over 11 years of experience today (27th September, 2024).
The event aimed to inspire and educate students on various aspects of film-making, drawing from Ms. Bedi’s extensive professional background. She was warmly welcomed by Vice-Principal Mr. Ramchandra Khanal and Senior School Coordinator Mr. Tank Meghji Devji.
The session began with an interactive discussion where Ms. Bedi explored the students' interests in film-making. She then presented a sample of her work, including a movie and a music video she had directed, which served as the basis for a deeper discussion. She covered key elements such as imagination, conceptual development, creativity, technical aspects (including audio and visuals), editing, and the use of AI.
Ms. Bedi guided the students through the entire film-making process, from pre-production to production and post-production, offering valuable insights into the film-making journey.
The orientation not only offered a glimpse into the workings of the film industry but also exposed students to various career paths in film and media. By sharing her expertise and real-world experiences, Ms. Bedi successfully broadened the students' understanding of the art of film-making. Many students expressed that the session provided an enriching experience, offering them insight into how film-makers think and work.
DAV School believes that such orientations by film-makers offer a unique and engaging learning opportunity for students. These sessions help students gain knowledge of both the creative and technical aspects of film-making, while also allowing professionals to share their educational backgrounds and experiences working on feature films, commercials, and digital content. Such interactions can inspire budding filmmakers and enrich their understanding of the arts.
Ms. Bedi’s impressive academic background includes graduating from three prestigious film schools: Whistling Woods in 2010, New York Film Academy in 2012, and Prague Film School in 2016. She has assisted on major commercial films like Aiyaary, Mohenjo Daro, Phantom, and Aashiqui 2, as well as numerous advertising films. In the last five years, she has transitioned into directing, working on digital ads, TV commercials, short films, music videos, and a mini-series.
Her recent works include the short film 1800-LIFE, produced by Sikhya Entertainment and available on Amazon Prime Video, and Lock'd In, a mini-series streaming on MX Player, which she directed and produced under her production house, Petrichor Films.
Ms. Bedi’s orientation offered invaluable knowledge to the aspiring filmmakers at DAV School, combining education with practical insights from her hands-on experience in the film industry.
