I never said thank you
For the food that appeared on my plate,
I got my food before I even felt hungry
As if hunger was afraid of our home.
I never asked how you day was,
You kept saying, “I am fine,”
While listening to my daily stories,
And your hair quietly turned grey.
To you, I am still a seedling
You never judged me for my mistakes,
I felt important under your protection,
Safe without knowing why.
You left your hobbies to fulfill mine,
For me you never took a day off,
Instead of praying for yourself
You always prayed for us.
You lost your comfort for us
You provided me with more than I needed,
Even when you had enough
You kept saving for our future.
The fruit on your plate often came to mine,
With you saying, “I’m not hungry.”
Even words hesitate before the term ‘parents.’
Words fall short when I speak to you.
You are the one I blindly believe.
And today, when I finally understand,
I realize –
Thank you
Was never enough for you.
