When was the last time you ever had an actual meaningful and deep conversations with any of your family members or your friends? I mean wasn’t the whole point of social media to bring people together and help them to socialize more? Ive observed that it has become quite the opposite.
Before social media was introduced, people used to interact with each other properly. When someone got to know of some rather peculiar or interesting information, they would’ve asked everyone to confirm if what said was true or not. These days whatever people see on social media, they tend to automatically assume that the information given is true. Nobody bothers to check the facts regarding the matter. In the olden days, people used to look up to their parents. Friends used to open up to each other freely expressing their feelings. Nowadays people tend to prefer opening up to random strangers online rather than to your friends or their family. They do not give a thought about the fact that someone might have already lived through the problem they’re experiencing or that someone could be able to help them with their issues.
These days people try solving all their problems through texting. I believe that the phrase "I'll text you about it later" is very popular. They won’t talk it out but rather "text it out". People follow whatever trends they see on their social media regardless of the consequences that may occur. Suppose two people may take the text in two different ways and it would create a misunderstanding. You can’t even express the emotion you want to through the text. People would rather spend their entire day scrolling through reels on Instagram or TikTok or through YouTube shorts made by random strangers online than spend time with their family.
In conclusion, although social media may be helpful in various possible ways, I believe that it is worsening peoples lived rather than improving them. It is making everybody more vulnerable and unsocialized day by day rather than helping them come together with their family and friends. So, I believe that social media is slowly drifting family and friends apart rather than bringing them together.
