Visit to Nepal Folk Musical Instruments Museum

The Natikaji Music Club of DAVSKVB organised an educational visit to the Nepal Folk Musical Instruments Museum in Teku on February 13. A total of 18 students from the Club participated in the programme.
Upon arrival, the students were warmly welcomed by the founder of the Museum, Ram Prasad Kandel. During the visit, the students had the opportunity to observe nearly 700 Nepali folk musical instruments that Mr. Kandel has collected throughout his lifetime. He explained the cultural significance of these instruments and highlighted their role in introducing Nepal’s rich musical heritage to the world.
Among the many instruments displayed were Sankha, Sahane, Jhyali, Tyaamko, Damahaa, Narsingaa, Maadal, Dholak, Sarangi, Damphu, Dhyangro, Daanf, Baalan Khainchadi, Maa Dhime, Ektare, Hitimanga, Tip Bansuri, Murchungaa, Bnaayo and Tung, among others.
The students were also given the opportunity to try playing some of the instruments under the guidance of Mr. Kandel. The visit was conducted under the supervision of Natikaji Music Club In-charge Mr. Vivek Thapa, along with music teachers Mr. Saroj Adhikari and Mr. Bhim Adhikari.
The programme proved to be an enriching and inspiring experience for the students, deepening their appreciation of Nepal’s traditional music and cultural heritage.
