Date: Oct 12th, 2026
DAV School felt truly honoured and blessed to welcome Venerable Bhikshu Pannakar Mahasthabir, his followers, and the Aloka Foundation during their visit to Nepal on October 9.
The team of leading Bhantes of Nepal in co-ordination with DAV Chairperson Shree Anil Kedia helped to spread this message of peace, compassion, and kindness.
The objective of the programme was to raise awareness and support the people affected by the devastating floods in Nepal.
Venerable Bhikshu Pannakar and his team have touched hearts around the world through their inspiring “Walk for Peace” campaign in the USA. Accompanied by their beloved dog, Aloka, they walked barefoot for an incredible 2,300 miles, from Texas to Washington, D.C., spreading the message of peace, love, and compassion.
The felicitation programme was jointly organised by Lumbini Bauddha University and Theravada Buddhist Academy to honour Bhikshu Pannakar for his remarkable contribution to peace. Lumbini Bauddha University conferred upon him an Honorary Professorship, while Theravada Buddhist Academy honoured him with the title of Agasantichaariko.
The occasion also marked the introduction of the Buddhist journal Elevate. Mr. Chiri Babu Maharjan, Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, graced the programme as the Chief Guest. The event brought together many scholars, respected personalities, and followers of Buddha’s teachings.
The highlight of the programme was the heartfelt sermon by Venerable Bhikshu Pannakar, who shared the story, purpose, and experiences of the “Walk for Peace” journey from Texas to Washington. He also spoke warmly about Aloka, the beloved dog who accompanied the monks, along with many other dogs, on their journey to peace.
Through his inspiring words, Bhikshu Pannakar reminded everyone to live without hatred, treat others with kindness, and practise peace and mindfulness in everyday life. Speaking about the devastating floods in Nepal, he reminded us that natural disasters can affect anyone at any time. He encouraged everyone to show love, compassion, and support to all living beings in need, wherever they may be. He also shared that the funds collected from around the world would support the welfare of people and animals.
Adding warmth and joy to the occasion, DAV School students presented a beautiful cultural programme in honour of Venerable Bhikshu Pannakar and his team. On behalf of DAV School, Chairperson Shree Anil Kedia, First Lady Shreemati Sunita Kedia, and School Director Shree Ayush Kedia, in the presence of Mr. Ramchandra Khanal, presented Bhikshu Pannakar with a token of love and respect.
Similarly, Chief Guest Mr. Chiribabu Maharjan, on behalf of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, joined distinguished representatives from educational, religious, and social organisations in honouring Bhikshu Pannakar with tokens of love and letters of appreciation during the programme.
The occasion was a beautiful reminder that peace begins in our hearts and grows through our actions. DAV School feels proud to have been part of this meaningful celebration and remains inspired by Venerable Bhikshu Pannakar’s journey of peace and compassion for humanity.
