DAV School Celebrates France’s National Day with Cultural Orientation and French Quiz Challenge
Date: Jul 15th, 2025
On the occasion of France’s National Day, La Fête Nationale, the Department of Foreign Languages at DAV School organised a vibrant and intellectually enriching programme featuring a French Orientation Session and a French Quiz Challenge. This special event aimed to deepen students’ understanding of French history, language, and culture while promoting global awareness and intercultural appreciation.
La Fête Nationale, widely known as Bastille Day, commemorates the Storming of the Bastille — a defining moment in the French Revolution and a symbol of the universal values of liberty, equality, and fraternity. To mark this historic occasion, an engaging orientation session was conducted to introduce students to the cultural and historical relevance of the day. The session aimed to broaden perspectives, encourage cultural respect, and promote knowledge of Francophone traditions.
Complementing the orientation was the French Quiz Challenge, designed to make learning about France an enjoyable and interactive experience. Students enthusiastically participated in the quiz, which tested their knowledge across various themes including French history, famous personalities, landmarks, brands, and general culture. The 20 participants were grouped into four teams, each named after prominent French cities — Paris, Lyon, Toulouse, and Marseille. The quiz comprised four dynamic rounds: “All About France”, “Famous French Personalities”, “Monuments and Landmarks”, and “French Brands and Logos”.
The presence of distinguished guests added prestige to the event. Mr. Sylvain Choin, Director of the Alliance Française de Katmandu, and Ms. Rubina Pradhan, Cultural Coordinator at the Alliance, served as the esteemed judges for the competition. Mr. Choin also addressed the students, highlighting the importance of recognising and appreciating both French and Nepali heritage. He remarked, “France has a glorious history — but so does Nepal, and that is something to be immensely proud of. French culture is rich, but Nepal’s cultural diversity is equally remarkable.”
This initiative not only celebrated France’s national identity but also aligned with DAV School’s commitment to nurturing global citizens by embracing international cultures and fostering linguistic diversity within the academic environment.
The event was successfully coordinated under the leadership of Mr. Sabin Shakya, Head of the Foreign Language Department. Participants and volunteers from Grade VIII played a vital role in the programme’s execution, while Preetishree Shrestha handled announcements with poise and clarity. The celebration served as a meaningful platform for students to develop cultural literacy and linguistic enthusiasm in a global context.
