Celebration of English Week: Principal Highlights Skits as Classrooms without Walls

William Wordsworth English Club organised the opening programme of English Week 2026 with an Inter-House Skit Competition for the students of Grade V to VIII in Buddha Hall on August 17.
The skit competition was the first event of English Week, which is being celebrated throughout the week with a variety of activities and competitions. The programme was attended by the Principal Dr. Bhubaneshwari Rao and Head of the English Department, Ms. Asha Khadka.
The Principal highlighted the significance of English Week and spoke about the importance of skits in students’ learning. She appreciated the excellent performances by the students and remarked that the standard of English Week activities has improved year after year.
The Principal also highlighted Skits as Classrooms without Walls. According to her, skits are one of the best ways of learning by doing, as students engage with stories, characters and plots. Skits enhance communication skills, articulation and creativity. They also help students gain confidence in acting, understand the needs of an audience and learn the value of stage.
Similarly, the Principal noted that when students step into different characters, they develop empathy and a deeper understanding of others. She also emphasized that acting helps students learn teamwork and understand society, values and human relationships.
The competition was held among the six school houses, with students participating enthusiastically and showcasing their talents on stage according to Club In-charge Mr. Ganesh Paudel. The judges for the competition were Ms. Sashilta Rai and Mr. Shyam Lal Das.
As per the results, Mt. Dhaulagiri House was declared the winner. Mt. Machhapuchhre House secured second position, while Mt. Kanchanjanga House secured third position. Slesha Acharya and Elegance Bastakoti served as the moderators of the programme, while Pranav Jha delivered the vote of thanks.
On the occasion, the Principal also announced the programme “Gala of Music and Dance: Rhythm and Soul”, scheduled to be held at DAV on 31 August, 2026. HoD Ms. Asha Khadka briefly spoke about the event with constructive feedbacks and announced the results. The certificates and medals will be distributed during the Closing Ceremony.
