Awareness Programme on Cyber Security

DAV School organized an insightful awareness programme on cyber security for Grade IX and X students today, September 17, 2026. The institution had the privilege of presenting Superintendent of District Police Office, Lalitpur, Mr. Gautam Mishra, as the key resource person. He was warmly welcomed by Chairperson Shree Anil Kedia, Mr. Ramchandra Khanal and Senior School Co-ordinator Mr. Tank Meghji Devji.
In his presentation, Mr. Mishra briefly shared his educational background before contextualizing the current crime landscape both globally and in Nepal. He noted that drug abuse and illicit trafficking remain the primary crimes in Nepal, followed by offenses involving illegal weapons and human trafficking. Transitioning to cyber security, he presented three detailed case studies—tracing each arc from the initial victim report to the tracking down of culprits, up through final court registration. These examples illustrated the exact methods criminals use to exploit social media, mobile phones, and the internet.
Emphasizing the crucial need for vigilance, Mr. Mishra urged students to exercise extreme caution while navigating social media, handling online bank accounts, and using internet services. Notably, he shared a sobering statistic: nearly 50% of suicides in Nepal are linked to cyber-related issues. To help students protect themselves, he outlined practical guidelines for safe digital habits.
During a brief address, Chairperson Shree Anil Kedia encouraged students to avoid detrimental behaviors, stating that the nation’s future relies entirely on the strength and integrity of today’s youth. Drawing from his deep spiritual insights, he advised students against harboring hostile or illegal thoughts toward others— including accused or convicted criminals —and warned against venting such feelings on social media. Citing a case of Japan as a reference point, he reminded students that individuals are legally accountable for what they write or state publicly.
Delivering the vote of thanks, Mr. Ramchandra Khanal mentioned that the program was envisioned by the Chairperson and executed under the guidance of Principal Dr. Bhubaneswari Rao. He reminded students that this stage of their lives is critical for building careers, cautioning that excessive exposure to social media and the digital space often leads to anxiety, depression and other types of mental health issues. He expressed sincere gratitude to Mr. Mishra for sharing his valuable expertise and voiced hope for future collaborations. The moderator of the programme was Senior School Activity In-charge Mr. Tanka Nath Ghimire.
