Science Extempore Competition for Grade IX and X Students

Newton Science Club organised an exciting Science Extempore Competition for Grade IX and X students on November 17 in Jetavan Hall. The event challenged participants to deliver three-minute impromptu speeches on various scientific topics, showcasing their knowledge and quick thinking. A total of 24 students, 12 from each grade, took part in the competition.
The topics covered a wide range of fields, including physics, chemistry, biology, and interdisciplinary subjects. Participants captivated the audience with speeches on topics like Nuclear Energy and the complexities of genetic mutation, making the event both educational and engaging.
The competition was judged by Mr. Kamlesh Kumar Karn, Head of the Science Department, and Ms. Ranju Shrestha, a senior science teacher. They evaluated the students on their scientific understanding, communication skills, and ability to present complex ideas clearly. The event aimed not only to reward academic knowledge but also to promote effective science communication.
In the results for Grade IX, Parth Agrawal from IX 'G' (Mt. Lhotse House) secured the first position, followed by Keshav Agrawal from IX 'G' (Mt. Annapurna House) in second place. The third position was awarded to Nandima Angbo Limbu from IX 'E' (Mt. Kanchanjunga House), while Bianca Karki from IX 'B' (Mt. Dhaulagiri House) earned the fourth position.
Similarly, for Grade X, Omraj Jha from X 'A' (Mt. Kanchanjunga House) claimed the first position, with Shubham Singh from X 'E' (Mt. Machhapuchhre House) securing second place. The third position was jointly shared by Shubh Kumar Dhanuka from X 'J' and Madhav Sah from X 'H' (both from Mt. Dhaulagiri House), while Dikshit Babu Acharya from X 'C' (Mt. Gaurishankar House) took the fourth position.
The event was moderated by Keshavi Somani (Grade XI 'B'), President of the Newton Science Club, and Aadarsha Bhattarai (Grade X 'J'), Secretary of the Science Club. Aaditya Das (Grade X 'J'), an executive member, served as the timekeeper.
In his closing remarks, Mr. Karn praised the students for their efforts and encouraged them to read their science textbooks daily for a stronger conceptual foundation, alongside exploring topics of interest online.
