Read to the Principal - 2024/25 (Grade IX to XII)

The final round of 'Read to the Principal - 2024/25' programme for Grade IX to XII students was held in the gracious presence of the contestants’ parents in Jetavan Hall on December 17.
The event featured an engaging interaction between the finalists and the Principal, Dr. Bhubaneswari Rao, who conducted interviews with each contestant. The judging panel comprised Mr. Ganesh Paudel and Ms. Jeevan Basnet from English Department.
The finalists who participated in the programme were Aashray Khatry (Grade IX 'D'), Khushboo Bhattarai (Grade IX 'A'), Sitanandan Sharma (Grade IX 'D'), Widushee Bhatta (Grade X 'C'), Saurya Jha (Grade X 'G'), Megha Thakur (Grade X 'I'), Keshavi Somani (Grade XI 'B'), Twinkle Pandey (Grade XI 'D'), Nishant Mahato (Grade XI 'B'), Garima Bhagat (Grade XII 'B'), and Risinath Singh (Grade XII 'B'). Their participation in the final round was the culmination of a rigorous selection process, including several interviews conducted by the Library and English Departments.
The event also welcomed the DAV Chairperson, Shree Anil Kedia, who showed his strong support for the reading culture promoted by the school. During the programme, he engaged with the contestants by asking questions, further enriching the intellectual atmosphere of the event.
The audience included students from Grades IX 'A' and 'B' as well as the junior and middle school finalists of 'Read to the Principal' programme. The contestants were asked questions about the books they had presented for the programme, focusing on their comprehension skills, reading styles, and ability to analyse the character, plot, setting, and ideologies within the books. The Principal also encouraged creative thinking by exploring how the students could reimagine or add a twist to the stories/books they had read. Additionally, the contestants were asked to reflect on why they had chosen their particular books, adding a personal dimension to the discussion.
The Principal expressed great delight in interacting with the students and extended her best wishes for their future endeavours. She praised their thoughtful insights and encouraged them to continue developing their reading and critical thinking skills.
Representing the parents’ community, Mr. Hari Krishna Bhattarai, father of Khushboo Bhattarai, shared his reflections on the programme. He remarked that attending the 'Read to the Principal' event was a unique learning experience for him and commended the students for exploring diverse topics such as fiction, World War history, Stalin, the Mahabharata, and financial issues through their chosen books. He also encouraged the students to write articles for newspapers and magazines, emphasising the importance of sharing their knowledge with a wider audience.
The 'Read to the Principal' programme is an annual initiative organised by the Helen Keller Library Club. The event was supported by Senior School Co-ordinator Mr. Tank Meghji Devji, Senior School Activity In-charge Mr. Tankanath Ghimire, Library Head Mr. Surya Majhi, and Library Teacher Mr. Krishna Bhakta Maharjan, who ensured warm hospitality for parents and complete support for the contestants.
The programme’s moderators included Pramish Gurung (Grade XI 'A'), Vice President of the club, who delivered the welcome speech; Smarika Dhakal (Grade X 'C'), Secretary of the club, who gave the closing remarks; and Tania Agrawal (Grade XII 'D'), Club President, alongside Sneha Khandelwal, Executive Member, who anchored the event.
The results of the programme will be announced during an upcoming school assembly.
