Publication Team Engages Senior School Students in Creative Writing Activities
Date: Dec 23rd, 2024
On December 19, the Publication Team organized a creative writing session for senior school students. The students were provided one period time for the competition.
According to Mr. Jonash Lepcha, Head of the Publication Team, students from Grade IX participated in a poetry-writing competition, while those from Grades X and XII took part in an oral storytelling competition. Meanwhile, Grade XI students engaged in a short story-writing competition.
Students were encouraged to freely express their creativity in any language of their choice, though the majority opted to write in English. The programme aimed to enhance students' creative writing, presentation, and analytical skills.
The oral storytelling competition for Grades X and XII was specifically designed to honour the tradition of oral storytelling, a cultural practice passed down through generations. The initiative also sought to raise awareness about the importance of preserving this tradition, which is gradually fading due to changing family dynamics, such as the migration of younger generations to urban areas, leaving grandparents in rural villages. Students were given the freedom to create original stories or share ones they had heard or read.
The students' submissions will be evaluated by their respective language teachers, and the winners will soon be recognized with Certificates of Achievement during a school assembly.
