The programme was graced by the presence of renowned ghazal writer and singer, Mr. Thaneshwor Gautam, and Vice-principal, Mr. Ramchandra Khanal. Out of the 35 schools that showed great interest in participating, 10 schools were selected on a first-come basis. DAV School also presented a ghazal voluntarily.
According to Vice-principal Mr. Ramchandra Khanal, the main objective of the competition was to honour the contribution of the youth poet Motiram Bhatta, the first ghazal writer in Nepali literature.
The participating schools included Modern Indian School, Nirvana Academy, Pathshala School Baneshwor, Aadarsha Vidya Mandir, Little Angel’s School, Bijeshwori Gyan Mandir Sainik Mahavidyalaya, Kanjirowa National School, Panini School, Jugal Nawa Gurukul and Ujjwol Tara School. Students performed timeless Nepali ghazals along with some popular modern ones.

To the audience’s joy, he performed two of his most popular ghazals—Birseyera Sringarma Gazal Lagaenachheu and Bechera Sapana—which added further charm to the celebration.
Vice-principal praised the Chief Guest for establishing a unique identity in the field of Nepali ghazal and noted that many young people consider him an ideal ghazal singer for his depth and devotion. He further expressed hope that such competitions of the studnets would inspire Mr. Gautam to bring more ghazals into the Nepali music industry. He also highlighted that the tradition of organising this programme began 15 years ago and has since been conducted every year on the occasion of Motijayanti, with 10 schools participating on a first-come basis.
Head of the Nepali Department, Mr. Narayan Khatiwada, welcomed the guests and briefly spoke about the role of Motiram Bhatta in introducing the ghazal to Nepali literature through the formation of Moti Mandali.
