English Department Wraps up Successful English Week

The English Week was closed with the grand ceremony in Buddha Hall on June 9.
The event was graced by the presence of dignitaries, Dr. Shiva Rijal (PhD), Central Department of English, Tribhuvan University, Chairperson Shree Anil Kedia, Principal Dr. Bhubaneswari Rao and Vice-principal Mr. Ramchandra Khanal.
A week-long celebration of English language, literature, and culture aimed at promoting and enhancing English language skills among students while fostering a love for literature and language learning. The English Department spared no effort in organizing an engaging and informative series of activities throughout the week.
The closing ceremony started with lighting the lamp ceremony by the dignitaries followed by welcome speech from William Wordsworth English Club In-charge Ms. Asha Khadka.
The winners of each event were honoured with the medals and merit certificates in the benign presence of the parent's communities.
Meanwhile, the best performers of musical band, poetry recitation, monologues and skits competitions took the opportunity to perform their talents among the large spectators.
Addressing on the auspicious occasion, Chairperson Shree Anil Kedia noted that the English Week Celebration programme was up to the mark and shed a light on the importance of English language in education. The Chairperson strongly believed that students' utmost engagement and dedication in writings, recitations and enactments on various genres of literature can help them to reduce the usages electronics gadgets. He admired all the recitations and enactments of the students.
According to the Chairperson, most of the students at these days have put off their natural feelings and made their way to the virtual world with various electronics gadgets.
Then, he inspired all the attendees to organize and participate in a programme like English Week so that every one of them could restore their natural feelings and emotions, the fundamental requirement of a life.
Meanwhile, he wholeheartedly extended sincere gratitude to the Principal Dr. Bhubaneswari Rao for providing wonderful learning environment with leadership skills and empathy together. On behalf of the School family, he extended sincere gratitude to English Scholar Dr. Rijal and the Parents communities for sparing their invaluable time to the children.
He also motivated the audience students to take stage performance of 'English Week' as an example and wished to see them on the stage in same trait.
Similarly, the Chief Guest Dr. Rijal was immensely delighted to be the part of programme and was all praise to philosophy of DAV education. Addressing the gatherings, he talked about the importance of the ancient values and culture of Indic regions to the rest of the world. At the same time, he also noted that east was bound to meet west and vice-versa in their journey of existence and development. Dr. Rijal gave equal emphasis on humanity and noted that the people around the world need to have sense of self realizations and creativity to foster humanity cautiously around the world. He wholeheartedly appreciated the performance of the students and thanked Chairperson Shree Anil Kedia, Principal Dr. Bhubaneswari Rao and all the faculties for nurturing them very well.
As per the results in English Story telling competition from Grade XI and XII, Isha Modi – XI 'B' won the first position followed by Rishi Natha Kumari Singh – XI 'A' and Sujata Panda- XII 'B' in the second and third positions respectively.
Similarly in Grade IX and X category, , Asmik Ojha from IX 'A' won the first position followed by Ayushi Gupta- X 'C' and Shubh Kumar Dhanuka – IX 'H' in the second and third positions respectively.
Likewise, in Grade XI and XII Poetry Writing Competition, Paridh Sarawagi from XI 'A' won the first position followed by Aastha Thakur- XI 'B' and Kasvi Malla- XII 'C' in the second and third positions respectively.
In Grade IX and X category of the same, Ankita Ari- IX 'I' won the first position followed by Pushpanjali Sinha- X 'H' and Yashika Sharma- IX 'A' in the second and third positions respectively.
In the same trait, Trishna Bansal from Grade XI 'A' won the first position in Poetry Recitation competition followed by Shally Goyanka- XII 'C' and Tanya Agrawal- XI 'E' in the second and third positions respectively.
In category IX and X, Snigdha Shakya from X 'B' won the first position followed by Grishma lama- IX 'A' and Rishita Sharma- IX 'J' in the second and third positions respectively.
Likewise, in category XI and XII, biography speech competition, Muskan Poddar – XI'B' won the first position followed by Muskan Singh – XI 'A' and Muskan Sah- XII 'A' in the second and third positions respectively.
In category IX and X, Bhavya Jha – X 'G' won the first positions. Vidushree Pareek – IX –'I' won the second position. Dikshit Acharya- IX 'B' and Trisha Manandhar – IX 'F' each won the third position.
Similarly, Mt. Gaurishankar House won the first position in Inter House Musical Band Competition. The winners are Eshan Kumar Shrestha- IX 'G', Aakrit Shrestha – X 'A', Sanshary K.C. – X 'D', Ankit Thakur- X 'G' and Suyesh Naulakha – XI 'B'. Mt. Lhotse House won the second position and Mt. Kanchanjanga House won the third position.
In Extempore Competition of Grade XI and XII, Aastha Thakur- XI 'B' won the first position followed by Soumya Bista – XII 'A' and Utkarsh Tiwari – XI 'A' in the second and third positions respectively.
Likewise, in Extempore category of IX and X, Prerak Pathak – X 'D' won the first position followed by Jigyasa Agrawal- IX 'H' and Yukti Sharma- IX 'E' in the second and third positions respectively.
In Inter House Monologue Competition, Aishwarya Shah- X 'C' and Krishu Shahi – X 'C' from Mt. Lhotse House won the first position. Ashita Barenwal- XI'B' and Aarna Agarwal- XI 'B' from Mt. Machhapuchhre House won the second position. Megha Thakur – IX 'J' from Mt. Gaurishankar house won the third positions.
Finally, Mt. Annapurna House won the first position in Inter House Skit Competition. The winners are Shreesha Paudel – IX 'B', Aarush Gupta- IX 'H', Madhav Sah- IX 'I' Sudyumnaa Sharma- X 'A' and Krishant Gurung – XI 'E'. Their skit title was 'A Forbidden Fruit'. Mt. Machhapuchhre House won the second position and Mt. Gaurishankar House won the third position in skits.
The competitions of English Week were evaluated by prominent English scholar Ms. Anuradha and Mr. Shaurav Lohani along with the teachers from English, Music and CCA departments. HoD of English Mr. Umesh Saud made concluding remarks and extended sincere gratitude to all the faculties who were involved to make the event a grand success. The moderator of the programme was Nandai Rai – Vice-president of English Club.
The executive members of William Wordsworth English Club were honoured with the merit certificate in the assembly of 11th June for their dedicated effort throughout the English Week.
