Dharmadeshana on the Auspicious Occasion of the 2569th Buddha Jayanti

Date: May 13th, 2025
On the auspicious occasion of the 2569th Buddha Jayanti, DAV School had the honour of welcoming two esteemed Bhikshus—Venerable Bhikshu Bimalo Mahaasthabir and Bhikshu Nayako Asthabir—who conducted insightful Dharmadeshana sessions at the school today (11th May 2025).
Chairperson Shree Anil Kedia warmly welcomed the distinguished Bhikshus, expressing his deep gratitude for their presence and teachings, especially amidst their demanding schedules. He conveyed his personal joy and privilege in being able to receive such profound spiritual guidance.
Students from Grades IX and X attended the session led by Bhikshu Bimalo in Buddha Hall, Shankar Sadan, while Bhikshu Nayako Asthabir addressed students of Grades VII and VIII in Indu Hall.
In his address, Shree Kedia emphasised that Buddha Purnima and the Sangha Daan programme are among the most revered events celebrated by the DAV community. “It is essential for both students and teachers to follow the teachings of the Buddha in order to truly understand the distinction between ‘Vidya’ (knowledge) and ‘Avidya’ (Ignorance),” he stated.
Shree Kedia also offered a simplified interpretation of Lord Buddha’s teachings, drawing from his own deep study and practice of Vipassana. He shared his aspiration to inspire students, educators, and spiritual seekers by reminding them that being born as a human, encountering the Buddha’s teachings, and dedicating oneself to Dharma are rare and precious opportunities.
The Dharmadeshana gained momentum as Shree Kedia humbly requested Bhikshu Bimalo to begin his sermon. The Venerable Bhikshu shared key insights into Lord Buddha’s path, guiding students on how to cultivate the qualities of a ‘Buddha Purush’. His teachings included the Five Great Renunciations (Pancha Maha Parityag), the various types of Buddhas—Shravaka Buddha, Sambodhi Buddha, and Brahmachitta Buddha—as well as concepts such as Bodhi Gyan, the Four Noble Truths (Chatur Arya Satya), and the Five Precepts (Panchasheel Marg).
He poignantly noted that the true success of the 2569th Buddha Purnima would be realised only when each of us offers to others the same kindness, speech, and behaviour we wish to receive—and refrains from giving what we ourselves would find unpleasant.
Bhikshu Bimalo also highlighted the extraordinary potential of human life, explaining that by living with mindfulness and compassion, one may achieve a state of honour even greater than that of the gods. Shree Kedia reflected on the Bhikshu’s emphasis on the values of loving-kindness (Maitri), compassion (Karuna), generosity (Daan), and renunciation (Tyag), describing them as deeply moving.
The Venerable Bhikshu Bimalo and Bhikshu Nayako expressed their sincere appreciation for the warm and respectful environment at DAV and praised the dedication of the school’s students, educators, and leadership towards the Buddha’s teachings.
Meanwhile, Bhikshu Nayako Asthabir led a separate Dharmadeshana session for the younger students of Grades VII and VIII, offering them foundational guidance in Buddhist philosophy and practice.
Concluding the event, both Bhikshus, accompanied by Chairperson Shree Anil Kedia and Vice-Principal Mr. Ramchandra Khanal, paid floral homage to the statue of Lord Gautam Buddha in front of Principal's Office.
Senior School Co-ordinator Mr. Tank Meghji Devji along with all the school authorities were present extend warm hospitality to the Bhantes. The moderator of the programme in Buddha Hall was Head of the Nepali Department Mr. Narayan Khatiwada. Similarly, Hindi HOD Mr. Purushottam Pokharel, Sanskrit HOD Mr. Purushottam Rijal and TGT and Senior School Counselor Mr. Karthik P. were moderators in Indu Hall.
