DAV Creates History: Wins Prestigious Sainik Cricket Cup after 14 Years of Sainik Team Dominance

DAV registered a historic win in the 16th Chief of Army Staff Inter-School T-20 Cricket Cup, ending the 14-year dominance of the Sainik team. In the final match, held on 17th February 2025, DAV defeated Nepal Police School, Sanga, Kavre by 60 runs.
Batting first, DAV posted a competitive total of 151 for 6 in 20 overs. Key contributions came from Farhan Ansari (33 runs), Kamal Shahi (32 runs), and Bikesh Kumar Jaiswal (22 runs), setting a challenging target for their opponents. In response, Nepal Police School struggled under pressure and was bowled out for just 91 runs in 17.5 overs. Shashank Jha delivered a stellar bowling performance, taking 4 wickets for 20 runs, earning him the Man of the Match title.
The tournament also recognized outstanding individual performances. Prasiddha Jaishi received multiple accolades, including Best Fielder, Best Batter, and Man of the Series. Meanwhile, the Best Coach award was presented to Durgesh Thapa Chhetri for his leadership in guiding the team to victory.
The final match was witnessed by DAV Chairperson Shree Anil Kedia, Vice-Principal Mr. Ramchandra Khanal, and Sports HOD Mr. Purnendu Ghosh. Former captains of the DAV Cricket Team—Mr. Aashutosh Ghiraiya, Rajat Prashad, Ashish Jha, and Piyush Shah—were also present to witness the momentous occasion.
Following their victory, the team returned their home and shared their success with the Principal Dr. Bhubaneswari Rao, who extended heartfelt congratulations and wished them continued success in their future endeavours.
The Inter-School Sainik Cup is regarded as the most prestigious school-level cricket tournament in the Kathmandu Valley. Along with the championship title, individual awards, trophies and certificate, DAV team was awarded a cash prize of 1 lakh.
