
Closing Ceremony of English Week, 2025

The closing ceremony of English Week 2025 was held successfully in Buddha Hall on July 28.
The event was graced by the Chief Guest, Prof. Dr. Rishi Ram Rijal. He was joined by the Guest of Honour, Chairperson Shree Anil Kedia, and special guests Mr. Nishant, Delivery Head at Taxotere, Carboplatin, and Herceptin, India; Mr. U.S. Gaikwad, General Manager at Edcil (I) Ltd., under the Ministry of Education, Government of India; and Mr. Subodh Kumar from the Embassy of India.
The Principal Dr. Bhubaneswari Rao, alongside Vice-principal Mr. Ramchandra Khanal and Chief Administrative Officer Ms. Vijaya Tater, warmly welcomed the distinguished guests and the invited parents and guardians to the programme.
A key highlight of the event was the showcase of winning performances from various competitions held during English Week, which ran from 21st to 25th July 2025. The award distribution ceremony honoured the outstanding talents of students who participated in the biography speech competition, monologue competition, skit performance, musical band performance, and short film review writing. Winners were felicitated with certificates and medals in recognition of their creativity, effort, and preparation.
The formal programme commenced with a lively musical band performance ("Always" and "Snooze"), followed by the welcoming of guests, ceremonial lighting of the lamp, the national anthem, and an official welcome address.
Among the standout performances were a Bharatanatyam dance set to English songs, presentations by the top three winners of the biography speech and monologue competitions, a dramatic skit titled 'Good Night Princess', and a closing musical band performance of 'Have You Ever Seen the Rain?'
In his address, Chief Guest Prof. Dr. Rijal expressed heartfelt joy at being invited to what he described as one of the most meaningful programmes of his life. He likened the students on stage to his own grandchildren and lauded the DAV School Management and faculty for nurturing globally competent and responsible citizens. He emphasised that education should go beyond the mere delivery of knowledge to instill wisdom and creativity, and he praised the school's practical approach in this regard.
Reflecting on his extensive career spanning 42 years and visits to 70 districts of Nepal, Dr. Rijal remarked that he had not witnessed such a high standard of education in any other school. He commended the school management, stating, "You have been igniting minds and setting a remarkable example for the entire educational system." He concluded his speech by wishing all the students and faculty continued success in their future endeavours.
Senior School Co-ordinator Mr. Tank Meghi Devji, Acting HoD of English Mr. Anjal Tajpuria, Wordsworth English Club In-charge Ms. Sashilta Rai, Publication Team Head Mr. Jonash Lepcha, and the entire English faculty were in attendance to ensure smooth conduction of the programme.
The event was smoothly moderated by Pushpanjali Sinha (Grade XII ‘B’) and Kinsha Maharjan (Grade X ‘C’). Chanchal Mohta (Grade IX ‘H’) delivered a welcome speech with Sofiya Baniya (Grade IX ‘C’) contributing in the cultural programme. The audiences of the programme were the students of Grade IX and XI. The formal programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Sashilta Rai, In-charge of the Wordsworth English Club.
