— Rudyard Kipling
On 27th April 2025, DAV School organised a special event, Mothers Worshiping in Vedic Traditions, to mark the celebration of Matatirtha Aunshi, also known as Aamako Mukh Herne Din.
The event was graced by the esteemed linguistic expert Dr. Januka Nepal, the Guest of Honour Mrs. Sunita Kedia (First Lady), and representative mothers from all sections of the school, from Kindergarten to Grade XII.
Despite his demanding schedule, DAV Chairperson, Shree Anil Kedia, graciously attended the event to extend a warm welcome to the mothers and praised the organising committee for curating such a remarkable celebration. His visionary leadership and unwavering dedication to value-based education continue to enhance DAV’s standing as a dream academic institution for countless parents across the country.
The Principal Dr. Bhubaneswari Rao, CAO Ms. Vijaya Tater, and Vice-Principal Mr. Ramchandra Khanal extended warm and heartfelt hospitality to the distinguished guests and attending mothers. It was truly inspiring to see the Principal and school authorities personally encouraging the tiny toddlers of Kindergarten, along with junior students from Grades I to IV, to actively participate in the Vedic rituals and worship ceremonies.
The formal proceedings commenced with an introductory speech by the Head of the Nepali Department, Mr. Narayan Khatiwada, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and a welcome address by the Head of the Hindi Department, Mr. Purushottam Pokharel. This was followed by the chanting of Swasti Baachan and the invocation ritual, Aawahan.
As a part of the celebration, two representative students from each section honoured their mothers with deep reverence and received abundant blessings in return. According to Mr. Purushottam Rijal, Head of the Sanskrit Department, all rituals were based on Vedic traditions, specifically from the Shukla Yajurveda.
In her address, Chief Guest Dr. Januka Nepal praised the cultural richness of the programme. She remarked that celebrations of Mother's Day at DAV play a vital role in counteracting the adverse effects of modern education, guiding the younger generation along the paths of Vedic tradition and Eastern philosophy. She further emphasised that such initiatives contribute significantly to preserving eternal religious and cultural values, enabling students to develop strong ethical and moral foundations. Dr. Nepal noted that if schools across the nation could emulate the efforts of DAV, it would greatly aid in safeguarding the Eastern values and cultural heritage currently facing the threat of extinction.
Vice-Principal Mr. Ram Chandra Khanal lauded the commitment of the mothers who, despite their busy lives, made time to attend. He highlighted the invaluable role of the Parent Community in supporting the school's mission to blend education with cultural and moral values. He reiterated DAV’s unwavering commitment to "Education with Culture and Moral Values."
During the programme, Ms. Nujan Sharma (Senior Nursing Officer) and mother of Astik Sharma Jha, expressed her heartfelt appreciation for DAV’s education system and praised the Mother's Day celebration. She expressed her hope that such meaningful events would continue in the future.
The aim of the Mother's Day Celebration was to instill in students the importance of respecting elders and seniors, thereby nurturing these values from an early age. Adding a melodious touch to the occasion, students from the Natikaji Music Club performed the heartwarming song "Mata Timro Aashish Pau Ma, Juni Juni Timro Bhajan Gau Ma," dedicated to all mothers, enhancing the beauty and emotional depth of the celebration.
In addition to this spectacular event, all the students from Nursery to Grade XII enthusiastically took part in greeting card making and poem writing competitions themed around Mother’s Day, further enriching the spirit of the celebration.
